Home Visit Policy -
We do not book routine doctor appointments over the phone, you can attend from 8am any week day morning and book a same day appointment at reception or register for My Health Online and you can book appointments online from 7am daily (ask at reception for further information). If a doctor specifically needs to review you they will book a future appointment whilst you are seeing them, otherwise you will need to book a routine appointment on the day as explained above. It may not always be possible to consult the doctor of your choice on the day and at the time you request but we will try our best to accommodate you. If routine are appointments are full and you feel your problem is urgent for that day you will be asked for further details from reception staff and they will arrange for a GP to call you back, either to arrange to see you or advise you the best course of action.
Some appointments, for example medicals, take longer than others. If you think that your appointment might need extra time please tell the receptionist when booking it.
Occasionally, particularly in the case of distressed children, some prioritisation will be necessary.
If you feel you need to see a doctor as a matter of urgency, and cannot wait for a routine appointment, you will need to discuss your concerns with the (day-time-on-call) doctor.
ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER
We now offer a service to make it easier for patients to access advice and treatment as quickly as possible for minor and acute problems. When you attend morning surgery, you may be offered an appointment with our Nurse Practitioner Lisa, Lisa is able to treat and prescribe medication for chest infections, sore throats, coughs & colds, asthma, COPD, diabetes, vaginal discharge, high blood pressure, and allergic reactions (a full list is available at the reception desk).
Nurses & Health Care Support Workers
Morning and Afternoon appointments for Monday to Friday can be booked 2 weeks in advance. You will be asked by the receptionist the nature of your appointment in order to book the most appropriate clinic.
If you are unable to keep an appointment then please cancel it. If you do not attend your appointment, you waste the doctors or nurses time, deny other patients the opportunity to see them and increase the overall waiting time for routine appointments.
SPEAKING TO A DOCTOR or NURSE
There are a limited amount of GP telephone consultations available daily. If your problem can be dealt with over the phone please ask the receptionist to book a telephone consultation. Please note if you require an examination you will need to be seen in person via a book on the day appointment.
Our receptionists have been trained to assist both patients and doctors and to this end they may ask you questions as to the urgency and nature of a problem. Whilst we appreciate that you may prefer to discuss this with your doctor the staff do respect your confidentiality and only make these enquiries at the doctors request in order for them to prioritise their calls. Please help the surgery by assisting the receptionist in this matter.
During Surgery Core Hours - 8.00 am and 6.30 pm weekdays
You can contact a doctor at any time by telephoning (01792) 653941. If the matter is urgent the telephone system asks you to make an appropriate selection.
Routine requests and enquiries will initially be dealt with by the receptionist and in addition to asking your full name, address, telephone number and date of birth they may ask for details of the problem in order to help the doctors prioritise their work.
You may be put through to a doctor or the doctor will call you back to discuss your concerns so please keep your line free. You may be asked to come to the surgery at a given time. Wherever possible please do this as it helps the surgery to make best use of its resources.
Outside the core hours above a voice message on the telephone system will give you the number for the GP Out of Hours Service
Out of Surgery Core Hours - 6.30 pm and 8.00 am weekdays, at weekends and on bank holidays.
Out of hours access to medical care is provided by the Swansea GP Out of Hours Service.
To access the GP Out of Hours Service call 111 and make the appropriate selection. Your call will be answered by a call handler who will ask you for some details and why you need to see a doctor. You may be put through to a clinician or one will call you back.
Keep this contact number to hand as it will mean you do not have to call the surgery first to get the number from our answer-phone.
The GP Out of Hours service is NOT a walk in service. Please DO NOT attend the Treatment Centre without prior arrangement.
